Dr Maura Smiddy
University Lecturer, University College Cork
Maura has a background in nursing and midwifery. Her most recent clinical experience is as an Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Nurse Manager. She completed a Master of Public Health in 2009 and was awarded a PhD (Medicine and Health) in 2019. She is the Director of the MSc in Infection Prevention and Control in University College Cork, Ireland. She lectures on Health Protection and Infection Prevention and Control at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is the immediate past Ireland Branch Coordinator of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) and the immediate past Chair of the IPS Research and Development Group. Her research interests focus on the prevention of infection and provision of safe patient care.
